Mount Everest security guards to stop fights
Tempers get hot even on freezing Mount Everest. So hot that there are fights among climbers there. One last April was between European and Sherpa climbers. It happened 1,400m below the summit. It was over an argument about ropes. No one was seriously injured. Everest Is becoming more crowded, so Nepal is acting now. It will send a team of nine security guards to deal with any alpine problems. The climbing season starts in April. Nepal's tourism ministry said last year's fight caused worries about safety and security. The nearest police station is days away. It will open a special office at Everest's base camp. The security team of army and police officers will make it easy to sort out any conflicts. It will, "give a psychological feeling to climbers that they are safe". The team will also help with first-aid, rescues and other things to make it easier for climbers. |
