Writing text messages is dangerous when you walk. It is more dangerous than driving and texting. Researchers said there are more injuries to people walking than there are to texting drivers. Walking is not as easy as we think. We must focus on many things to walk safely in a straight line. We can forget how to walk properly, so dangerous things happen. We bump into people or cars. We fall over things in the street, or fall down stairs.
A professor said there are a few reasons why texting and walking is dangerous. People cannot see the street. They are focused on their keyboard and not their feet. A final reason is that their minds are somewhere else - they are not thinking about walking safely. Over 6,000 people visited the professor's hospital last year because of texting. The most serious cases are head injuries. When a car hits someone, there is nothing to protect the head.
