The Reading / Listening - Level 0

Last year saw record refugee numbers. Over 65.3 million people had to leave their home or country. This is 50 per cent more than five years ago. One in every 113 people in the world is a refugee. There are twenty-four new refugees every minute. It was World Refugee Day on June the 20th.

The biggest reason for the record number is war. Over 98,000 unaccompanied children tried to enter other countries. This is the highest number ever. Ninety per cent of refugees are from poor countries. Refugees have big problems at borders. These include fences, immigration laws, and people who hate them.
