China's Huawei rejects US criminal charges
An argument has broken out between China and the USA over the treatment of China's technology giant Huawei. The USA accused Huawei of criminality. It charged Huawei with a list of crimes, including bank fraud, conspiracy to defraud the USA, and theft of trade secrets. The FBI explained the charges at a press conference. It said: "The charges…are the result of years of investigative work conducted by the FBI.… [These] charges expose Huawei's…actions to exploit American companies and financial institutions and to threaten the free and fair global marketplace." China is angry over the USA's treatment of Huawei. It said the USA was trying to "kill" Chinese businesses. China's Foreign Ministry said in a statement: "For some time now, the United States has deployed its state power to smear and crack down on targeted Chinese companies in an attempt to kill their normal and legal business operations." It urged the US to, "stop its unreasonable crackdown on Chinese companies, including Huawei, and treat Chinese companies objectively and fairly." It said: "China will firmly safeguard the legitimate and proper rights of Chinese companies." |
