new diplomatic spat has broken out between China and USA over the USA's treatment of China's technology giant Huawei. The USA has accused Huawei of criminal wrongdoing. It has charged company with litany of crimes, including bank fraud, wire fraud, conspiracy to defraud United States, and theft of trade secrets. The director of FBI explained the charges at press conference. He told reporters: "The charges [disclosed] today are result of years of investigative work conducted by FBI and our law enforcement partners. [These] charges expose Huawei's brazen and persistent actions to exploit American companies and financial institutions and to threaten free and fair global marketplace."
China is furious over USA's treatment of Huawei. It has accused USA of trying to "kill" Chinese businesses. spokesman from China's Foreign Ministry, Geng Shuang, said in statement on Tuesday: "For some time now, United States has deployed its state power to smear and crack down on targeted Chinese companies in attempt to kill their normal and legal business operations." He added: "We strongly urge US to stop its unreasonable crackdown on Chinese companies, including Huawei, and treat Chinese companies objectively and fairly." He warned that: "China will firmly safeguard legitimate and proper rights of Chinese companies."
