Refugees are increasing around the world. People are fleeing wars; others feel unsafe in their homeland. They all want a new life in a safe country. Multinational companies will give jobs to 250,000 refugees. Companies like Adidas, Amazon, Pepsi and Starbucks made this offer on World Refugee Day. More than 40 corporations will help refugees in the next three years. Kelly Clements, the U.N. Deputy High Commissioner for Refugees, was happy about this news. She said the promises that businesses are making "are absolutely essential".
There are more than 110 million refugees worldwide. Around 12 million of these are from Ukraine. More than 6.8 million fled Syria and 5.7 million left Afghanistan. Ms Kelly said: "Every number is a story of an individual family who left everything, seeking safety…and wanting to be able to rebuild." Amazon said hiring refugees would benefit the company. It said refugees would add diversity to its workforce and would make the company stronger. Amazon added that: "Diversity brings innovation, creativity and different [points of view]."
