Netherlands 1 Japan 0 (19th June, 2010)

The Netherlands won their second game of the tournament against a very well-organized Japanese side. With six points, the Dutch must surely qualify for the last 16. It was a very hard-fought match and Japan were unlucky to have lost. In the first half they had more of the chances on goal. They defended superbly and limited the Netherlands to just one shot on target. Perhaps the Netherlands were trying to avoid another upset. They played with a lot of patience and did not allow Japan a lot of space. Their goal came early in the second half. Wesley Sneijder's thunderous shot was too much for Japanese goalkeeper Kawashima, who failed to keep it out. Japan had a chance to level the score in the 89th minute when Shinji Okazaki fired his shot over the bar from the corner of the 6-yard box.
