The Reading / Listening - Level 1

A big U.K. supermarket will remove all candy and chocolates from its checkouts. There will be no sweets at checkouts by the end of this year. It wants its customers to be healthier. The store researched the best place to put things. It said that two-thirds of customers thought it was a good idea to remove candies from checkouts. The store's CEO said: "We all know how easy it is to be tempted by sugary snacks at the checkout."

Britain's Public Health Minister liked the store's idea. She said it would reduce obesity and poor health, and help people to make healthier choices. The parenting website MumsNet.com told the BBC that the idea was "positive" and would make life "easier". It said: "Popping into a shop with a small child…can sometimes feel like…an assault course." She said it was good that a big supermarket listened to customers and took action.
